If you're searching for the ultimate dog sledding Anchorage adventure, look no further! This action-packed tour will take you soaring through the skies, offering you the chance to take in the breathtaking beauty of the Alaskan wilderness from the comfort of a helicopter. You'll then be transported to an authentic sled dog camp, where you'll have the opportunity to meet these incredible canine athletes and their mushers. After that, you'll take on the leadership role and mush around the snow-covered glacier yourself! Embark on this once-in-a-lifetime adventure and create memories that will last a lifetime!

Your Anchorage dog sledding adventure begins with a breathtaking helicopter ride that will take you through the majestic Great Gorge of Knik Glacier, soaring above snow fields and deep crevasses. You'll then touch down near the sled dog's summer home, where you'll have the choice to stand on the runners and mush the team, or sit as a passenger and enjoy the ride. You'll then have a full hour to spend with the dogs, taking photos and learning more about these incredible animals. Once the hour is over, you'll hop on the helicopter again and head down to the lower glacier, where you'll enjoy a guided 30-minute walk over ancient ice and around deep blue pools, exploring the glacier's otherwordly beauty and learning more about its life-cycle and importance in nature. As your tour comes to a close, you'll be able to wind down during another scenic helicopter ride back to camp, where you'll soar over the tundra, getting the chance to spot Dall sheep, moose, and even bears.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is snow guaranteed?
Yes! The dog camp is located on a vast snowfield atop the Knik Glacier, ensuring the dog sleds used for this tour have the necessary amount of snow to operate.
Will I get to stand and mush the dogsled team?
It's up to you! On this Anchorage sled dog tour, you can choose to stand on the runners and mush your own team of dogs, or you can sit back and relax on the sled while an experienced musher takes the reins. Whichever you choose, you'll be sure to have an unforgettable experience!
What should I wear to this tour?
For this dog sledding tour, layered clothing is essential for both safety and comfort. Wear a long-sleeved shirt, a sweater, and a waterproof jacket. It's also a good idea to bring gloves, a hat, and sunglasses. High-heeled shoes and sandals are not permitted. We will provide you with overboots that will enable you to traverse the glacier safely; these go over your shoes and fit best with sneakers, but boots work just as well. Don't forget to bring your camera to capture the breathtaking scenery!
What if I need extra help on the tour?
Please contact us before your booking if you need wheelchair or limited mobility access so that we can discuss your needs. We take great pleasure in adapting to offer this opportunity to those who think they cannot participate in activities like this!
How long is this excursion?
The helicopter flight is approximately 20 minutes each way, totaling 40 minutes of aerial sightseeing. The sled dog ride is a two-mile journey, with stops for photo opportunities along the way. You will also spend one hour at the dog camp interacting with the dogs, and spend 30 minutes exploring the lower glacier.
How many passengers can fit in the helicopter?
On average, each helicopter can accommodate up to six passengers, though this depends on the aircraft's weight and load capacity. Please contact us before your booking if you wish to book for a group larger than 6.
What happens if the weather is too bad to fly?
The Knik Valley boasts one of the best climates in Alaska, making flights and dog sled tours rarely subject to cancelation. However, bad weather still happens, and it's impossible to predict when this will happen. If the pilots deem the weather too dangerous, we will do our utmost to reschedule your tour. If you're unwilling to reschedule or we can't find a suitable time, you'll be refunded.
