Description

This wildlife tour from Icy Strait offers the best chance of viewing Alaskan brown bears here on Chichagof Island! This area is famous for having one of the highest densities of coastal brown bears in the world, with 1-2 bears per square mile! Join your local expert guide in a comfortable 10 or 14 passenger van and travel through the Tlingit village of Hoonah to the wild coastal rainforest in search of these amazing animals. Your guide shares their wealth of knowledge on the area and the fascinating creatures that make it their home. Bears and other wildlife that are abundant here are commonly seen throughout the summer, so while we cannot guarantee that they will make an appearance during your tour, the chances are in your favor. Your guide is an expert in bear habits, movements, and favored feeding spots and knows where to go for the best opportunities to watch them. You'll explore different sites and enjoy the stunning unspoiled wilderness of the Tongass National Forest by van and by foot. In addition to wildlife viewing, you can expect to see totem poles and other points of interest as you pass through the native village and learn about the local history and Tinglits from your friendly guide.

This Icy Strait bear and wildlife tour includes pickup and drop off at a meeting point just a 5-10 minute walk from the cruise ship pier. It's the perfect choice for those looking to escape the crowds and discover the wild Alaskan wilderness, learn about the local native culture, and see the incredible wildlife in their natural habitat!
